Ros McCain portrayed by Sophie McShera

In the lower sixth is bookish Ros McCain, the surprise child of slightly older parents. Growing up with these two as her main influence, Ros has always had an "old head on young shoulders" and is an able and trustworthy student. She is often relied on by staff to help out with school projects or give advice to younger pupils in trouble.
Ros is supremely unaffected by current fads or peer pressure and her independent and carefree spirit soon attracted the attentions of Philip. He loves her straightforward attitude and refusal to get embroiled in the usual teenage crises and they bonded when Ros encouraged him to showcase his comedy talents. But this term Ros finds herself paired with French teacher Jo on the Advanced Preparation for University scheme and she soon relishes their cultural conversations. It’s not long before Ros develops a crush and when Jo obliviously encourages her affections it threatens to send the usually calm and sensible Ros over the edge.
