Class act ahead for Rebecca (May 18th 2012)
It's back to school for one Neath actress.
Rebecca Craven has landed a lead role in series eight of school- based BBC drama Waterloo Road.
The 20-year-old actress was studying musical theatre in Trinity College in London, but has now deferred her studies and has moved to Glasgow within two weeks of getting the job.
"It has been a whirlwind ever since I was told I got the part," said the former Dwr-y-Felin pupil.
"I hadn't been auditioning regularly as I was focusing on my studies however my agent and former teacher Mark Jermin always knows when a part is right for me. He advised me to go for the audition which has truly changed my life."
Rebecca attended the Mark Jermin Stage School for five years prior to moving to London, and took on the leading role of Tracy Turnblad in the production of Hairspray in 2010.
Rebecca's mother Mandy Craven said: "We are all really proud of Rebecca. I always hoped she would get a break like this but the industry is so hard. We are really looking forward to watching the new series on TV."

The Strictly runner-up has spent six years on the hit school drama, now set in Scotland and filmed in Greenock.
Her character, Janeece, went from being a pupil to working as secretary at the school. But Chelsee, 23, is now filming her last few scenes before leaving within the next month.
She said: “Waterloo Road and playing Janeece has been a part of my life for six years and I’ll be sad to leave.
“Working with the cast and crew has been the best time of my life.
“I’ll miss it so much. I can promise fans my exit will be unmissable – but my lips are sealed.”
Waterloo Road executive producer Cameron Roach, of Shed Productions, said: “It’s been an incredible experience watching Janeece grow from being a pupil to the school secretary.
“We’re currently shooting an emotional and engaging departure storyline, which we’re extremely excited about.”
The new series of Waterloo Road will be aired later this year. The BBC’s decision to move the show to Scotland is expected to create 200 jobs and boost Scotland’s “creative sector” by more than £20million.

Waterloo Road’s Katana Twins Set Their Eyes on US Success
Millie and Hope Katana may be known for playing everyone’s favorite troublesome twins Shona and Rhona Mansfield on BBC One drama series Waterlooo Road, but the pair revealed in an exclusive interview that they’re nothing like their gobby alter egos.
A lot of people come up to us saying "Oh my god, I thought you were going to be stoosh… it’s surprising because we’re actually really nice people…"
Millie continued: "If people did say that we were like our characters we would actually be hurt."
While the twins try their best to keep away from their on-screen stereotype, the ambitious soul singers revealed that there was nothing keeping them from the recording studio in a recent trip to New York to work on some new material apart from one slight distraction. Man Candy.
"It was amazing we felt like Kardashian sisters, there were beautiful boys everywhere, American boys are just hot… Everywhere you looked there were just hot guys… we would definitely move there."
But before you start thinking that there is nothing keeping the Katana sisters from jetting off to the States to sell their first million, they did reveal a slight eye for Tottenham rapper Chip (the artist formerly known as Chipmunk),
"When we say his name we’ve got to giggle a little but we rate him highly, he’s done so well… we would love to work with Craig David too, Hope loves Craig David, the guy is a mountain! He’s so big!"
Now that the pair have ditched the school uniforms and picked up their mics, it’s not going to be long before we see this feisty twosome causing trouble in the charts.

Waterloo Road hits the street (2nd May 2012)
Setting up set on loacation
GOUROCK was again the location of choice for filming of the new series of Waterloo Road yesterday.
The town's Kempock Bar, on Kempock Street, was turned into a film set as programme-makers continue to bring a taste of showbiz to Inverclyde.
Production trucks, filming equipment and cast and crew all lined the streets from early in the morning as more scenes for the forthcoming series eight of the popular BBC programme were shot.
Last week, star of the show Chelsee Healey was spotted on Ashton Road as filming took place on the Gourock promenade, while cameras were rolling simultaneously in Cleats Bar on Kempock Street.
Around 20 per cent of scenes will be shot on location during Waterloo Road's two-year stint at its new home in the old Greenock Academy on Madeira Street.
Port Glasgow, Greenock and Gourock have all had a taste of filming over the last few weeks.
Show makers are pressing on with bringing storylines to life ahead of Waterloo Road's return to television screens sometime in the autumn.
The last series to be based in Rochdale, Greater Manchester, came to an end on screens last Wednesday, when teachers and pupils headed off for their new home in Greenock.

It's Water view Road for Chelsee Healey (27th April 2012)
Waterloo Road star Chelsee Healey was a sight to sea as she filmed the hit school show yesterday.

'Taggart' star Alex Norton cast in 'Waterloo Road' (1st April 2012)
Taggart star Alex Norton has been cast in the new series of Waterloo Road.
The actor will play the headmaster of a rival private school who clashes with Waterloo Road head Michael Byrne (Alec Newman) when the school drama moves to Scotland.
Gaynor Holmes, acting head of drama for BBC Scotland and executive producer of Waterloo Road, told the Sunday Mail: "Alex will be joining as the character Gerard Findlay, the headmaster of rival school Havelock High.
"He has a very different philosophy to teaching from Michael and they are going to clash and butt heads. A lot of the local pupils will be attracted to Waterloo Road at the expense of the roll call at Havelock and that's going to get right up his nose.
"So, you have two strong headmasters with very different approaches to teaching on the same patch and that is going to cause friction. Alex is brilliant. He's not just a well-loved Scottish actor but is also known across the UK."
The set is moving to Scotland from Rochdale as part of the BBC's commitment to producing drama around the country. The move will be written into the show, with headmaster Michael setting up an independent school in Scotland, funded by a dot-com millionaire and former pupil, following the closure of the old school.
The BBC has commissioned Shed Productions to make 50 episodes over the next two years, generating an estimated £25m and 230 new jobs in the area.

'Waterloo Road' star Philip Martin Brown recalls epilepsy struggle
Waterloo Road star Philip Martin Brown has spoken of how epilepsy almost destroyed his theatre career.
The actor, best known for playing strict teacher Grantly Budgen on the BBC One show, was diagnosed with temporal lobe epilepsy at the age of 19. He later had to quit the stage as his seizures became increasingly frequent.
Brown told The Sun that doctors finally cleared him for successful brain surgery 15 years after he was first diagnosed.
"Epilepsy affected my life, my career, everything," he explained. "It took away a lot of confidence because I never knew where it would happen or who I would be with."
Recalling one occasion when he suffered a seizure on stage, Brown continued: "I'm told the cast covered for me and the audience didn't know. I suppose it looked like I had gone blank and started to do odd things. Once that happened, I realised that I couldn't continue on stage."
He added: "Now that I'm seizure-free, you can't keep me away. I was in panto last year and in the West End, which is fantastic after all those years that the door was firmly closed."
Brown spoke out as part of his support for Young Epilepsy, which offers help to youngsters who have the condition.

'EastEnders' Jane Beale star Laurie Brett joins 'Waterloo Road' cast

Best known for playing Jane Beale in the Albert Square soap, the actress will start filming when the school drama relocates to Scotland next month.
She will play Scotland-born Christine Mulgrew, an English teacher appointed by headmaster Michael Byrne (Alec Newman) when he sets up the new school in the eighth series.
"I am thrilled to be joining Waterloo Road," Brett said in a statement. "I have watched it on and off from the start as my good friend Jill Halfpenny was in the first series.
"The character I will be playing is such a complex woman, with many issues, and it will be a real departure from what people are used to seeing me do.
