Phillip Ryan portrayed by Dean Smith
An awkward fantasist, despite his best efforts, Philip has always had trouble fitting in socially. Constant shifting schools and an extroverted mum who has never really paid him any attention left Philip a needy and over-eager adolescent. Easily influenced and prone to hero worship, Philip is keen to hang with the cool kids and be part of the gang. Former ugly duckling, Philip really blossomed last term – with so many new pupils, no one seemed to care that he’s the Head’s nephew anymore, giving Phil space to finally get comfortable in his own skin and start enjoying himself, revealing a cracking sense of humour and great observational wit. His goofy sense of humour won the heart of strait-laced Ros McCain and an unlikely romance blossomed.
Philip’s still really devoted to Ros but as her secret crush on Jo develops he’ll notice she’s becoming distracted. It’s a terrible blow for Phil when he finally learns the truth and he’ll be subject to more than a little ribbing in the playground.
